Seattle Slew: SDSC Speakers at HPDC-12 and GGF-8

Experts from the San Diego Supercomputer Center (SDSC) will be speaking at two important meetings in Seattle at the end of June. The Twelfth IEEE International Symposium on High-Performance Distributed Computing (HPDC-12) takes place June 22-24, and the Eighth Global Grid Forum (GGF-8) runs June 24-27, both at the Sheraton Seattle Hotel and Towers.

HPDC-12 presents the latest research findings on the design and use of highly networked systems for computing, collaboration, data analysis, and other innovative tasks. Keynote speakers include Larry Peterson (Princeton University and Intel Research) and Miron Livny (University of Wisconsin). Chaitan Baru, SDSC's program director for Data and Knowledge Systems, will give an invited talk on June 24 on the topic of GEON, a cyberinfrastructure for the geosciences. Other invited talks will be given by Ian Foster (Argonne National Laboratory and the University of Chicago) and Malcolm Atkinson (Universities of Glasgow and Edinburgh). On June 25, the conference will hear Erwin Laure (CERN) and Carl Kesselman (University of Southern California).

GGF-8's theme is "Building Grids: Obstacles and Opportunities." Keynoters here include John Gage (Sun Microsystems), Shane Robison (HP), Kenichi Miura (Fujitsu America), Gordon Bell (Microsoft), and Luis Rodriguez-Rosello (European Commission). The meeting also features several invited speakers, debates on hot topics, and five panel sessions. Alan Blatecky, Executive Director of SDSC, will moderate a panel on Grids and broadband networks on Thursday, June 26, and another panel on Grid security issues on Friday, June 27.
